Search Engine Ranking Checkers
Getting good positions in search engine results is far more valuable then getting a good page rank. Here are a few tools to help you keep track of your progress.
Ventio’s Google Position
This is by far my favorite tool so far, because it is so simple to use. You can check multiple keywords for the same domain name at once by separating them by commas, and you can set the tool to check up to 1000 google search result pages. The downside is that it is a google only tool. You can’t check your ranking on other search engines like yahoo, msn, altavista, or alltheweb.
Search Engine Ranking Report
This tool will search through the first hundred results on MSN, Google, Yahoo, and Altavista. But you can only check one keyword at a time.
iWeb Tool’s Search Engine Position Checker
It can only search for one keyword at a time, it only gets results from google, it only checks through the first 100 pages, and you can only make 5 requests to the server in 1 hour without buying a “gold” account.
Hope you find these tools useful. I will keep this post up to date as I find more tools that fit into this category, and if you know of any that haven’t been mentioned here, then please drop a comment bellow.

Joel, the first link in the post isn’t working…. you need to add the http:// prefix I think. I gave all three a try but I think I will stick to using SEO Elite as it does all the search engines that selfseo.com does but goes up to a 1000 results deep.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for pointing out the broken link. I will go and sort that next. SEO Elite looks good, but too pricey for me at the moment.
Might ask for a review copy once I have more of a blog to show them.

I have recently also been trying Sheerseo.com, and it’s pretty nice- It keeps track of up to 10 urls, for 20 terms and is free for 2 months then like 5 a month. You can also track your inbound links, and back track your “historical” positions. This is better than having a checker run, record it yourself because it graphs it automatically.

Sounds like a great tool!

Thank you for providing these resources. I’ve bookmarked them and I think they will be very useful. I use SEO Elite as well, but sometimes it also works for me (if I am checking the first few hundred results) to set my Google Search Preferences to 100, turn on the Firefox SEO Addon (which causes ranking numbers to show next to search results) and do a simple Control F to find out if my URL is in the first few pages.
Its a great blog you have here and I will be back again - thanks!

I tried the “Search Engine Position Checker” but I think it uses google.com which obviously has restricted searches for sites in the UK domain. I usually use WEBCEO and have not had any problems as it can run up to 10 URl’s and 50 keywords at a time.
Great post and keep up with your nice writing style too.
